WOOD FALSE CEILINGS

The wood has a place of honour between warm materials which are used to cover ceilings and walls. The warmth of this material becomes in optimum to big spaces, where a large number of people is gathered. In this way, it manages to exploit wood up to its most technical capacity, in places including public venues, offices, theatres, auditoriums, hospitals…
Thanks to different finishes and perforations possibilities in the panels, Spigogroup is capable to offer a wide and varied range of high quality models.

Questions frequent

What is a false wooden ceiling?

The false wooden ceiling, or suspended ceiling, is a constructive element that is installed by means of a system of T-grids at a certain distance from the original slab or ceiling, for technical or aesthetic reasons, and that, sometimes, also offers a free space called plénum.

Characteristics of wooden false ceilings

One of the main characteristics of wooden suspended ceilings is that they can be assembled or disassembled relatively easily. Depending on how quickly this operation can be carried out, we distinguish between demountable suspended ceilings and inspectable suspended ceilings.

The removable wooden false ceilings can be installed easily and quickly but, in some cases, do not allow quick access to the ceiling slab installations (piping, electrical, HVAC…) for inspection at all points. Once installed we can disassemble it again, but always starting with the side areas that will be the best access to begin the removal of the material.

However, suspended ceilings may allow direct access to a specific point of the installation without the need to dismantle it in its entirety, and thus be able to repair or replace some of its panels, or access ceiling slab installations, without affecting the rest of the false ceiling.

Reasons to install a false wooden ceiling

There are several main reasons to install a false wooden ceiling.

On the one hand, the aesthetics of the space in which they are placed. The false ceiling covers the original ceiling slab, concealing irregularities in the construction and hiding materials or installations thay may be visually unacceptable to any user (piping, electrical, HVAC…).

Including a false ceiling with perforation and controlled acoustic absorption allows to obtain rooms with a lower reverberation time, and therefore a higher acoustic comfort. In some countries, it is mandatory to comply with regulations regarding the reverberation time of a room, and a false ceiling with acoustic absorption can help to comply.

On the other hand, technically speaking, a false ceiling can house a multitude of elements such as light fittings, air outlets, smoke detectors and fire water outlets, sensors and security cameras, as well as keeping the corresponding ducts, pipes and cables hidden.

There is a final reason, which is to save on air conditioning and care for the environment. A false ceiling lowers the ceiling height and reduces the volume of air to be heated or cooled, reducing the energy bill of a building and helping reduce its carbon footprint.

Benefits of wooden false ceilings

The benefits of wooden false ceilings are many and that is why its use is so widespread.

Aesthetically, wooden false ceilings provide warmth and elegance. The use of wood is also the most ecological and renewable option. And, when installed using sound-absorbing wooden panels, they also help to control reverberation and achieve good acoustics in a discreet and effective way.

Another benefit is that they are easy to assemble, disassemble, repair, replace and maintain, making them the perfect ally for the rest of the building’s installations (air conditioning, security, connectivity, etc.). They are also highly resistant to impact and humidity, and can offer an excellent reaction to fire.

What are the advantages of Spigogroup's wooden false ceilings?

The false ceilings manufactured by Spigogroup are designed to improve the acoustics of a room while providing a very elegant aesthetic solution that can be adapted to any decorative style. For this, the catalogue offers hundreds of coating options with different degrees of acoustic absorption, which can be combined with a wide variety of finishes in natural wood, melamine, lacquered or HPL.

In addition, Spigogroup’s wooden false ceilings have different assembly systems, all very simple in their execution.

Finally, Spigogroup wooden false ceilings are manufactured in Spigogroup’s own facilities in Europe, and are certified ISO 9001, 14001, PEFC, FSC, in terms of reaction to fire and in terms of formaldehyde emission and volatile organic compounds (VOC – air quality). This allows Spigogroup to manufacture made-to-measure and to take on special orders according to the characteristics of each project, with accredited guarantees of service, quality, compliance with regulations, delivery times and reliability.

What type of wood is used for good acoustic conditioning?

The acoustic panels with which Spigogroup wooden false ceilings are installed are manufactured with an MDF or medium density fibreboard base, which is very easy to cut and machine and does not produce splinters. This MDF base can be standard or can have a special fireproof or waterproof treatment, depending on the place where they will finally be installed.

The MDF base board can be finished in melamine, varnished natural wood, lacquered or high density laminate (HPL), according to aesthetic needs.

Is it easy to mount a false wooden ceiling?

Whether you opt for a Spigotec wooden suspended ceiling or a Spigoacustic wooden suspended ceiling, the installation methods are standard in the interior cladding industry, and any experienced team will be able to do the job.

Spigoacustic suspended ceilings can be installed with a choice of T-15 concealed profile, T-15/T-24 semi-concealed profile or T-24 concealed profile + clamp.

Spigotec suspended ceilings can be installed with a choice of exposed profile, concealed profile T-24, semi-exposed profile T-15/T-24 or fineline profile T-15.

How long does it take to install a false wooden ceiling?

It will depend on the model and installation system chosen, the size of the wooden ceiling or false ceiling and the experience of the fitter. Spigogroup, as a company with ISO 9001 certified management and production systems, is proud of its agility in manufacturing, speed and commitment to material delivery times, ease of installation.
