Wood and school design: the case of the new Lezkairu nursery school

By Architecture, Construction, Decoration, News, Spigogroup wood projects No Comments

Wood and school design come together to create unique educational spaces with welcoming environments that promote a feeling of well-being, both for students and teachers. The choice of wood as a construction material in school architecture not only provides a beautiful and natural aesthetic, but also promotes an environment conducive to learning. According to a study carried out in 2016 by the University of Salford among more than 700 students from seven different Primary Schools in Blackpool, optimal classroom conditions (decoration, lighting, colours, etc.) can influence the teaching-learning process, improving school performance by up to 25%. In addition, wood is a very versatile material and a renewable resource if managed properly. Using certified wood from sustainable sources, like Spigogroup does, is an environmentally responsible choice, as it reduces the carbon footprint of the building process. For this reason, when the new Lezkairu nursery school was designed and built, they thought about the wood solutions that Spigogroup can provide for this type of project. We manufacture and install made-to-measure slatted pine frames and birch plywood door frame cladding, as well as window frames, sills and other trims. We also custom-make the doors, lacquered in white and equipped with magnetic locks, pivoting doors and phenolic cabins for the changing rooms. The result, as you can see, is spectacular.               If you liked this post about wood and school design, you may also be interested in:   - The importance of acoustics in coliving or cohousing - Wood ceilings for wineries: tradition and modernity in the great temples of wine - Why is wood one of the best materials for decorating and constructing buildings? - Educational architecture: the renovation of the Sagasta Secondary School in Logroño has been shortlisted for the BigMat 2023 awards

Technical doors for schools - Instituto Práxedes Mateo Sagasta in Logroño

By Acoustics, Architecture, Construction, Decoration, Spigogroup wood projects No Comments

Spigogroup manufactures, and markets through its brand Spigodoor, technical doors for schools. We are proudly responsible for the acoustic doors and fire doors used today in schools, colleges and universities, as well as for the special finger pinch-proof doors in many kindergartens. A few months ago we experienced that sense of pride again, along with a more special feeling of bonding and attachment. Anyone from Logroño has either studied or knows someone who has studied at the iconic Instituto Práxedes Mateo Sagasta in the capital of La Rioja. That is why it was very special for us to be able to participate in the project for the complete renovation and refurbishment of the building. Also because our work covered practically all the wood solutions offered in the Spigogroup catalogue: acoustic panels, phenolic lockers, phenolic cabins, wood ceilings, interior cladding made of wood slats, flooring and other building elements and furnishings. In many cases, we undertake special customised work. You can find out more about the installed coatings in post "Interior wood cladding at the new Práxedes Mateo Sagasta Secondary School in Logroño" Of course, we also made and installed some of the doors for the new Sagasta Institute, in tune with the general line of the project where light-coloured finishes abounded. Thus, we manufacture and install acoustic doors of the soundproof 38 dB model in white lacquered MDF RAL 9010 with concealed hinges, and doors with flush leaves with jambs on the outside and metal frames. The results, as you can see, look spectacular.             If you liked this post about technical doors for schools, you may also be interested in:     - Spigogroup launches new wood slat cladding with PET felt insulation - Interior wood cladding at the new Práxedes Mateo Sagasta Secondary School in Logroño - Acoustic conditioning of classrooms: calculation of reverberation time and recommendations - The benefits of using wood panels in Passivhaus-certified projects

Interior wood cladding at the new Práxedes Mateo Sagasta Secondary School in Logroño

By Acoustics, Architecture, Construction, Decoration, News, Spigogroup wood projects No Comments

At Spigogroup we have carried out countless projects manufacturing and installing interior wood cladding for schools but, without a doubt, the one we bring to this blog today is very special. The Práxedes Mateo Sagasta Secondary School was built in 1900. It is one of the most emblematic buildings in Logroño and, just a few weeks ago, it reopened its doors after several years of extensive renovation and refurbishment. The building has been completely modernised, both in its aspect and functionally, whilst preserving its history and heritage. Spigogroup's participation in the project was crucial, as it simultaneously worked on floors, walls and ceilings, with wood cladding, wood technical doors and special made-to-measure furniture, including phenolic lockers and cubicles. As for interior wood cladding, we manufactured and installed wall and ceiling cladding in walnut, white lacquered or compact formica finishes, references F1040 and F7923. We also installed more than 400 m² of Spigoline Grid 6-30-70-30 model solid wood slat cladding, with black grilles and finished in white-tinted obeche wood with autoclave bs1d0. In addition, we mounted Spigoacustic 28-16-16, wood acoustic panels made of flame retardant MDF laminated with white phenolic Alpine F-1040, as well as slotted ceilings in 15 mm flame retardant poplar plywood. In the auditorium we took care of the Prodema walnut supra floor, the bleachers, the steps, the stand aprons and nosings in natural matt varnished wood. Walnut plywood plinths, skirting boards, cupboards, benches, handrails, door frames and a high-performance plywood floor with autoclave flame retardant and woodworm treatment complete our long list of wood works.                 If you liked this post about interior wood cladding, you may also be interested in:   - Acoustic conditioning of classrooms: calculation of reverberation time and recommendations - Acoustic panels for Lezkairu Health Centre - The relationship between architectural acoustics and luxury - The 7 advantages of using ayous wood interior cladding in your projects
