Office acoustics and work performance

By Acoustics, Architecture, Construction, Decoration, News No Comments

Improving and ensuring good office acoustics is key to achieving good work performance. Decorators, architects and builders know this, and that is why office acoustic conditioning is currently one of the main reasons to renovate or move office premises. Today’s offices are open spaces that foster collaboration, encourage trust, and promote relationship building and the birth of new ideas. But this transparency and use of shared spaces sometimes makes it difficult to maintain optimum acoustic comfort. And we don’t just mean a possible increase in volume, but also problems caused by reverberation and other annoying acoustic effects. Poor acoustics increase distractions and interruptions and hinder concentration. This leads to frustration and stress and, consequently, reduces employee productivity and work performance. However, according to the article ‘“Productivity:” How Acoustics Affect Workers’ Performance In Offices & Open Areas’, by David M. Sykes, PhD (http://mpsllc.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Productivity.pdf) taking care of office acoustics can reduce conversational distractions by 51% and improve an employee’s ability to concentrate by 48%. It also improves the error rate by 10% and reduces worker stress by 27%. This can be achieved with the strategic use of sound-absorbent panels, such as Spigoacustic or Spigotec wood acoustic panels. The best locations to install them are on walls and ceilings in conference rooms, meeting rooms, concentration areas, offices, open work rooms and breakout areas or WorkCafes.       If you liked this post about office acoustics, you may also be interested in:   – What is acoustic comfort? Project in wood and winery technical doors for Bodegas Piérola and Hotel FyA

By Acoustics, Architecture, Construction, Decoration, News No Comments

One of the most beautiful commissions of the year has been the project in wood and winery technical doors for Bodegas Piérola winery and Hotel FyA, in Navarrete, La Rioja. The recently opened FyA Winery-Hotel by Carlos Bujanda is a new model of winery and hotel that combines the production of high quality wines from the DOCa Rioja with wine tourism, sustainability and culture. The winery building has a unique, avant-garde aesthetic, which stands out for its modern architectural configuration. The chromatic range of its façade blends into the surroundings by using four easily-recognisable hues found in the surrounding landscape: the tile-brown of the clay-ferrous soils typical of Rioja Alta, the classic ochre of the clay-limestone soil of Rioja Alavesa and the more common dark brown of Rioja Oriental, together with the characteristic garnet-red of Rioja wines. The 4-star hotel offers 29 rooms with views of vineyards, as well as the usual amenities such as a gym, spa, cafeteria and a wonderful rooftop terrace with panoramic views. Our participation in the project included various areas: from the water-varnished oak wood decking installed on a metal structure, and the fitting of oak handrails and lacquered skirting boards, to the manufacture and assembly of technical doors of 210.00 x 82.50 cm with plain lacquered leaves, with 90 x 30 mm frames and 90 x 10 mm jambs. Our Spigocompac brand phenolic panel sports furniture was also used in the changing rooms, in dark grey.       If you liked this post about winery technical doors for bodegas, you may also be interested in:   – Do coloured lacquered technical doors exist? 7 Features you should know about decorative wood panels

By Acoustics, Architecture, Construction, Decoration, News No Comments

In this article we collect the seven characteristics of decorative wood panels that we believe every architect, decorator and interior designer should know about. If, after reading it, you have any doubt, please don’t hesitate to write us at commercial@spigogroup.com. We look forward to hearing about your projects.comercial@spigogroup.com   1.- Aesthetic value of decorative wood panels Decorative wood cladding demonstrates its aesthetic capabilities on a daily basis. In a subtle way it brings a touch of elegance and warmth. It turns cold areas into comfortable, welcoming spaces. In short, it makes the final result of a project better.   2.- Acoustic value of decorative wood panels Spigoplank offers different volumetric design options on three-dimensional surfaces made of solid wood. From an acoustic point of view, Spigoplank is, thanks to its reflective and diffusing effect, the perfect complement to Spigogroup wood acoustic panels, used for the acoustic conditioning of rooms.   3.-Different finishes to choose from The Spigoplank wood cladding is offered in obeche wood finish, to which any wood effect stain or RAL colours can be applied. If desired, it can also be manufactured in other solid woods (oak, iroko, etc.). It also allows for the application of standard varnish, B-s1,d0 fireproof varnish or autoclave treatments combined with fireproof varnish.     4.- Wood from regulated and sustainable sources Spigoplank decorative cladding is made of solid obeche or samba wood. Obeche wood is native to the western jungles of Central Africa and is known by different names depending on the country: wawa in Ghana, obeche in Nigeria, ayous in Cameroon and samba in the Ivory Coast. It grows naturally, but the wood used in Spigoline comes from regulated, sustainable plantations that guarantee an environmentally-friendly source.   5.- Light, stable and resistant wood Obeche wood comes in light hues ranging from creamy whites to pale yellowish whites. It has a straight, occasionally interlacing, medium-full grain and is not very impregnable. It is also a light wood, with an apparent density of 0.38 kg/m³ at 12% humidity. With regard to dimensional stability, it has the following characteristics: Very stable wood with a contraction coefficient of 0.33 %. No tendency to cup with a 1.73% contraction ratio Hardness (Chalais-Meudon) 1.2 soft wood Static bending strength 620 kg/cm³ Modulus of elasticity 59,500 kg/cm³ Compressive strength 285 kg/cm³ Parallel tensile strength 480 kg/cm³     6.- Easy to install Installing decorative panels is easier than you might think, particularly if you use Spigoplank wood panels. Any professional or handyman can do it with common tools. In fact, we are convinced that easy assembly is one of the reasons why this type of wood panelling has been so successful among architects and decorators since it was launched on the market a few months ago. On walls and ceilings it is installed using a system of wood battens and nails. This system consists of nailing the panels to battens that are previously fitted on the wall or ceiling. When installing the battens, make sure they are level, both vertically and horizontally. The battens should be parallel to each other and perpendicular to the panels. We recommend using battens at least 30 mm thick. Avoid low density chipboard, to ensure the nails cannot be pulled out, separating the panels from the battens. It is also advisable to fill the space between battens with some sort of insulation.   7.- Ideal for… Walls and ceilings: they are designed and have installation systems specifically for these purposes. Very useful when we need to hide insulation on walls and ceilings, radically transforming visually unacceptable areas into beautiful decorative spaces. “Hard” concrete spaces or other cold surfaces where a wood panelling provides warmth and helps to build cosy settings. When a quick installation without too much work is required. See “Installing decorative panels with Spigoplank“ They can also be used out of doors as well.       If you liked this post about characteristics of decorative wood panels, you may also be interested in:   – 3 Examples of the use of wood slats in schools – Renovations of retail premises and restaurants: Why go for wood? – 4 options of wood panels for interior walls Which would you choose? – Colour acoustic panels and 2021 Colour of the Year
