Which decorative wood panels are sound-absorbent and which are not?

By Acoustics, Ac煤stica, Architecture, Arquitectura, Construcci贸n, Construction, Decoraci贸n, Decoraci贸n, Decoration

Decorative wood panels are a popular choice in interior design, not only for their aesthetic appeal, but also for their acoustic properties. However, it is important to understand that not all wood panels are sound-absorbent, and their ability to improve acoustics depends on their design and composition. Sound-absorbent decorative wood panels Sound-absorbent panels are specifically designed to improve sound quality by enabling acoustic conditioning. They are made of materials that absorb sound waves, preventing them from being reflected and helping to control acoustic reverberation, defined as the time lapse from the moment when a sound source stops emitting sound until the energy reaching the receiver decreases by 60 dB. These panels are usually composed of a combination of wood and absorbent materials, such as the 0.25 mm sound-absorbent acoustic veil attached to the back of Spigoacustic and Spigotec wood acoustic panels. These panels have grooves or perforations on the surface of the wood, allowing sound to penetrate and be absorbed by the underlying material. Depending on the percentage of perforated surface, they will have greater or lesser sound absorption. Finally, the visible surface of the panel has an aesthetic finish that can range from varnished natural wood to different melamine, lacquer and HPL options.   NON sound-absorbent decorative wood panels On the other hand, NON sound-absorbent decorative wood panels are designed only for aesthetic purposes and do not provide an acoustic improvement to the room where they are installed. These panels are usually made of wood without perforations or additional sound-absorbing materials. The need for acoustic conditioning in tourist offices

By Acoustics, Ac煤stica, Architecture, Arquitectura, Construcci贸n, Construction, Decoraci贸n, Decoration

This summer, many of us have experienced the need for acoustic conditioning in tourist offices of many Spanish towns. Perhaps without knowing very well what was happening, we have been waiting for the tourism technician with a particular sense of discomfort. This discomfort, beyond the summer heat, was related to the lack of acoustic comfort. It happens that, often, the design of tourist offices has forgotten an essential factor for the correct attention of visitors: acoustics. These spaces are often located in busy, noisy areas, where the accumulation of sounds can be overwhelming. Additionally, modern offices often feature large, hard surfaces, such as glass and marble, that reflect sound rather than absorb it, intensifying acoustic reverberation. This phenomenon not only creates a noisy environment, but also makes speech understanding difficult, which can frustrate both tourists seeking information and employees trying to provide it. The solution lies in the installation of wood acoustic panels. These decorative wood panels are specifically designed to absorb sound, thereby reducing reverberation and improving the acoustic quality of the space. Wood, a natural and sustainable material, offers a dual benefit: in addition to its acoustic properties, it brings warmth and an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere to the environment. Installing these panels can transform a noisy and stressful office into a calm and welcoming space. Furthermore, wood is a versatile material that can adapt to different styles, allowing it to be seamlessly integrated into any tourist office.     . Removable decorative wood ceilings are made of wood panels laid out on a fully standardised grid system, for quick and easy installation from the sides of a room. In this post we are going to try to resolve the six most common doubts about this constructive and decorative resource.       What material are removable ceilings made of? They can be manufactured with different materials but usually wood is used as a material that, in addition to offering good acoustic performance, also adds value from the point of view of aesthetics.   Some removable ceilings are acoustic removable ceilings, how do we distinguish them? At first, acoustic removable ceilings stand out for the perforations on their surface, which provide the different levels of sound absorption in the different models. On the back, removable ceilings also have a black veil that completes the acoustic sound-absorbing properties of the wood panels.   What type of main base plate or support can the acoustic panels of removable wood ceilings have? – MDF Standard Support: Medium-density fiberboard support is destined to an use in dry environments – Fire – Retardant MDF Support: Medium-density fiberboard support with improved fire reaction. – Moisture – Resistant MDF Support: Medium-density fiberboard support with is resistant to moisture – Plywood Support: It is a support with wood thin layers which are glued transversally with syntentic resins through strong pressure and heat.         What is the space between the removable decorative wood ceilings and the original ceiling used for? In addition, removable ceilings offer a space between the false ceiling and the main ceiling. This space “left” by removable ceilings serves to house hidden wires and pipes needed for devices in the building’s various installations: electricity, heating, gas, air, sound or safety.   Are they also used to house security elements? Yes. Among the most common safety elements that we can discover in the removable ceilings are fire-fighting systems, smoke detectors, motion sensors, alarms and security cameras, and other more advanced devices of the latest domotic systems for special buildings.   What differentiates a removable ceiling from a accessible ceiling Removable ceilings are those which can be removed although it can only be done by removing wood panels starting from the sides up to the point where you need to work.
