Acoustic conditioning of a theatre: the importance of size and shape

By Acoustics, Acústica, Architecture, Arquitectura, Decoración, Decoration

The acoustic conditioning of a theatre is essential to achieve the sound quality desired by the public that attends the performance of a play, a musical or a concert. The factors that influence the acoustics of a room are many but, perhaps, the first and most important are its size and shape, since both factors determine how sound propagates in space and how it is perceived by listeners. Firstly, the size of the theatre directly influences the reverberation time, which is the time it takes for the sound to dissipate after being emitted. In larger spaces, it takes longer for sound to reach surfaces and return to the listener, which can cause excessive reverberation. Conversely, in smaller spaces, sound can dissipate too quickly, reducing tonal richness. The shape of the theatre is equally important. Geometric shapes affect the direction and distribution of sound. For example, curved surfaces can focus sound in certain areas, creating “hot spots” or areas where the sound is more intense. Flat, parallel surfaces, on the other hand, can generate echoes or “standing waves” that distort the clarity of sound. Horseshoe or fan-shaped stage space designs are often ideal for their ability to distribute sound evenly. The way to guarantee the correct acoustic conditioning of a theatre is the use of acoustic panels, such as those manufactured by Spigo, which help control the reflection and absorption of sound and manage to regulate the reverberation of a space, providing it with optimal acoustics. The integration of wood acoustic panels in furniture or other decorative elements

By Acoustics, Acústica, Architecture, Arquitectura, Decoración, Decoración, Decoration

The use of wood acoustic panels in interior design has gained popularity due to its ability to improve acoustics while adding elegance, warmth and distinction to the aesthetics of a room. Usually, acoustic panels are manufactured in standard measurements and are placed on walls or ceilings using quick and simple mounting systems. But there is another possibility: the integration of wood acoustic panels as furniture coverings or as part of other elements of the design of a space. Integrated acoustic panels open a wide range of possibilities for designers and architects seeking to optimize acoustic quality without compromising design. To carry out this type of work it is necessary to have a supplier of acoustic panels, such as Spigo, who is also a manufacturer. This will allow us to have acoustic panels manufactured to suit the needs of each project in terms of dimensions or finishes. These are three good examples:   Cabinet island of the winery’s tasting room. at Bodegas Barón de Ley, made with Spigoacustic acoustic panels, model 28-32-32.       Headboard made with Spigoacustic 28-NO-16 sound-absorbing wood covering, finished in varnished natural oak veneer       Columns at the Qatar Development Bank – QDB covered with LEO 16 model acoustic wood panels in cherry melamine and fireproof MDF (B-s2, d0).     In this way, thanks to Spigogroup’s ability to adapt to the needs of each project, customization and quality become key allies for decorators and architects looking for innovative acoustic solutions that adapt to their designs.     If you liked this post about integration of wood acoustic panels, you may also be interested in:     – Solid wood slat ceilings for the Finanzauto offices in Chiva – Wood lath and slat cladding in new coworking spaces: the case of Coworking Hiptown in Paris – Interior wood cladding at the new Práxedes Mateo Sagasta Secondary School in Logroño – Technical doors for schools – Instituto Práxedes Mateo Sagasta in Logroño
