Educational architecture: the renovation of the Sagasta Secondary School in Logroño has been shortlisted for the BigMat 2023 awards

A few days ago we received the news that the renovation of the Sagasta Secondary School in Logroño had been shortlisted for the BigMat 2023 international architecture awards. We were already proud to be part of this great educational architecture project, but now we are thrilled to know that it has been chosen from among 850 projects from seven European countries as one of the 14 finalists for this prestigious award. Spigogroup played a major role in the integral refurbishment and renovation project of the emblematic Sagasta Institute, with various commissions in different parts of the building. We took care of interior wood cladding, manufacturing and installing wall and ceiling cladding in different formats and finishes: walnut, white lacquer and formica compact. We also manufactured and installed solid wood slat cladding, Spigoacustic wood acoustic panels and other wooden elements, including floors, stands, plinths, skirting boards, skirting boards, cupboards, benches, handrails and door frames. We also made and installed some of the acoustic doors for the new Sagasta Institute, in tune with the general line of the project where light-coloured finishes abounded, and we designed and custom-manufactured, phenolic panel cubicles and lockers. The awards ceremony will take place in November, in Seville, when we will know the jury’s decision for the BMIAA’23 International Grand Prizes for Architecture and for Small Scale Residential Architecture, 7 National Prizes in each category and the Special Mention for Young Architects. Interior design of hotels: the importance of acoustics in hotel reception areas

There is a key component in the layout and interior design of hotels that affects the whole image of the establishment: the guest reception area. It is clear that the image and attractiveness of a hotel is at stake in the few metres between the entrance to the building and the reception desk. In that short time, guests may well decide if they are going to enjoy their stay there. That first impression will have a major influence on the way guests perceive the staff, services and facilities during their stay. Hotel guests like to be in a place where they can feel at home, where their needs are met and where they can disconnect. That is why it is essential to have the right acoustic conditioning to assure the sound comfort that we all desire. Installing acoustic panels on walls and/or ceilings, including on the wood panelling of the reception desk, will help to control reverberation and echoes and other annoying sound effects in the room. 3 modern wood ceilings you’ll want for your next project

Modern wood ceilings offer a perfect combination of style and functionality in interior design. The decision to endow a building with wood ceilings, or ceilings with wood panelling covering other materials has many origins. Sometimes there is a need to contribute warmth to the building such as that offered by wood ceilings which other materials can just not achieve. At other times, the use of design ceilings requires it. Even the use of sound-absorbing wood ceilings can come from the need to use acoustic ceilings in order to fit a room with acoustic conditioning. Here are three examples of modern wood ceilings that we have recently made at Spigogroup:     Lezkairu Health Centre The architectural studio Alonso Hernández y Asociados opted for wood as the main material for the interior wall and ceiling cladding in this project. We were looking for the elegance and warmth that only wood can bring to a space, and the sound comfort offered by the use of acoustic panels.
